Sign Language Interpreting and Transcribing Coordinator

Jeff Jaech, Sign Language Interpreting and Transcribing Coordinator, coordinates interpreting, computer-based notetaking/transcribing, and captioned media services. As a nationally certified interpreter, he is also responsible for providing interpreting for UO classes and events. He holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Columbia University, Teachers College, and a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of California, Riverside.

Jeff has worked in the field of D/deaf and hard of hearing services since 1984. As the child of Deaf parents, his interest in the field comes naturally and he is passionate about giving back to the community in which he was raised. Prior to joining the Accessible Education Center, Jeff served as the director of deaf and hard of hearing services at Columbia University, Teachers College, in New York and as a training specialist with the Gallaudet University Regional Center at Johnson County Community College in Kansas where he ran a federal grant project providing training for sign language interpreters in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. He has also worked as an interpreter trainer throughout the country since 1997.

In his non-professional life, Jeff loves to spend time traveling, cooking (ask about his specialty, Beef with Cactus!), challenging friends to a friendly pinball game, and hanging out with his cats, Gator and Newcat.
