Newly Admitted Students

The AEC uses an individualized, interactive process to evaluate requests for reasonable accommodations based on disability. Accommodations are determined by AEC based on a combination of the student’s self-report, supporting documentation of disability, and AEC staff’s professional judgment.  Students can initiate the interactive process by requesting an appointment with an AEC access advisor.

Please see below for some general timelines:

Housing Accommodations

If you need disability-related housing accommodations, please note that there is a June 1st Priority Deadline. The ideal time to meet with an AEC Access Advisor to discuss housing accommodations is once you have committed to UO and applied for University Housing. Although requests can be made at any time, they cannot be guaranteed after the priority deadline and will depend on availability. For more information, please visit our Housing Accommodations webpage.

AEC at IntroDUCKtion

At IntroDUCKtion you will have the opportunity to attend an Accessible Education Center informational session. At the orientation session you will learn about different ways AEC partners with students, the process to establish disability-related university accommodations, and next steps to get started. These sessions are geared toward answering both student and parent questions. Please refer to your IntroDUCKtion schedule for the time and location of informational sessions.

Academic accommodations may be established any time after attending IntroDUCKtion and registering for classes. Students are welcome to meet with an Access Advisor prior to that; however, a follow-up meeting is generally needed.

Transition to College

There are many differences between high school and college. The more you are aware of these differences, the better prepared you will be for the transition to college. For more information, visit our K-12 transition resources page.
